Department of Elections
City and County of San Francisco
John Arntz, Director
For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday, October 1, 2024 – This week, the United States Postal Service will begin delivering over 500,000 vote-by-mail ballots packets prepared by the Department of Elections for local voters. Each packet will contain a four-card ballot, a postage-paid return envelope, voting instructions, and an “I Voted!” sticker.
“Voting by mail is a safe, secure, and dependable method for casting your ballot. When choosing to vote by mail, voters can be assured that their votes are counted with integrity, their identities remain confidential, and they can confirm that their ballots have been received and counted,” said Director John Arntz. “Voters have several convenient options for returning their ballots: through the United States Postal Service, at the City Hall Voting Center, or at one of the 37 official ballot drop boxes. I encourage every eligible San Franciscan to take action—make your voice heard by casting your ballot in the November 5 election!”
On Monday, October 7, the Department will launch the Accessible Vote-by-Mail System at sfelections.gov/access. This system allows any voter to download and mark their vote-by-mail ballot using a screen-reader, head-pointer, sip-and-puff device, or other assistive technology. Once a voter has completed their ballot, they are required to print it and return it either by mail or in person.
Local voters can track their vote-by-mail ballots from assembly through delivery, signature verification, and counting. To do this, voters can navigate to the “Track My Ballot” tab at sfelections.gov/voterportal. Additionally, voters can sign up to receive updates via text (SMS), email, or voicemail by visiting WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov.
Any registrant who does not receive their ballot packet by October 11 is urged to call the Department of Elections at (415) 554-4375, write to sfvote@sfgov.org, or navigate to the “Request a Replacement Ballot” tab at sfelections.gov/voterportal to request redelivery. Voters can also request a replacement ballot in person at the City Hall Voting Center.
The Department of Elections is committed to ensuring that every voter has the tools and support needed to participate confidently in the upcoming election. This includes providing comprehensive information on voting options, accessibility resources, language assistance, and more at sfelections.gov. Voters can also call the Department at (415) 554-4375 to receive election information in their preferred language and format.
