For Immediate Release

SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, September 13, 2024 – On Tuesday, September 17, the nation will celebrate National Voter Registration Day to increase voter registration ahead of the November 5 election. Shortly after, from Monday, October 7 to Friday, October 11, National Voter Education Week will take place. In support of these initiatives, the Department of Elections, in collaboration with its local outreach partners, will facilitate numerous voter registration opportunities across the City.

“Over the coming weeks, our Outreach Team will be engaging with San Franciscans across the City, helping new voters register and providing information about the November 5 election. The goal is to ensure that all eligible San Franciscans, including non-citizen residents eligible to participate in the November 5 Board of Education Election, have easy access to voter registration and resources for the upcoming election,” said Director John Arntz. “For those already registered, now is a great time to check your voter information. With ballots being mailed in early October, please ensure your address is up to date by visiting sfelections.gov/voterportal or contacting the Department.”

In scheduling upcoming registration events, the Department has focused on identifying venues that serve the City’s hard-to-reach and vulnerable populations. Between now and the end of September, the Department’s Outreach Team will engage with these communities by hosting voter registration and resource tables, providing education presentations, and encouraging people to cast their vote in the upcoming election.

The Department is also partnering with the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) to celebrate National Voter Registration Day. The SFPL has curated two book lists —one for children and one for adults—focused on voting rights and civic engagement. Additionally, the Department’s outreach staff will distribute paper bookmarks featuring these book lists at the National Voter Registration Day events.

The upcoming key events include:

Monday, September 16: Voter registration resource tables at CCSF’s Citizenship Day and Kaiser Permanente's French Campus.
