SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday, August 6, 2024 – The Department of Elections provides information about filing deadlines for the upcoming November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election. (A detailed calendar of election deadlines can be viewed at: https://sfelections.org/tools/cscal_nov24/)
Nomination Period for Local Offices. The nomination period for offices of the City Attorney, District Attorney, Sheriff, Treasure, Community College Board, Board of Education, and BART Board (District 7 and 9) will close on Friday, August 9, 5 p.m.
Selection of Letters for the Local Ballot Measures. On Monday, August 12, at 9 a.m., the Department of Elections will select and assign a letter to identify each local measure that will appear on the ballot for the November 5, 2024, election. The selection process will take place at the Department’s office in City Hall, Room 48. The Department will also livestream the selection of letters and post a recording of the process on sfelections.org/observe.
Submission of Official Proponent and Opponent Ballot Arguments: The deadline for submitting Proponent and Opponent Arguments for local ballot measures is 12 p.m. on Thursday, August 15. All ballot argument forms are available on the Department’s website at https://www.sf.gov/measures-and-ballot-arguments and must be submitted in person at the Department’s office by the deadline.
If the Department of Elections receives more than one proponent or opponent argument for a measure, the Department will select one proponent and one opponent argument based on priority levels and, if necessary, by lottery. This selection process will occur at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 15. The Department will also livestream the selection of official proponent and opponent arguments and post a recording of the process on sfelections.org/observe.
Submission of Paid Ballot Arguments: The deadline for submitting Paid Arguments for local ballot measures to be printed in the Voter Information Pamphlet is 12 p.m. on Monday, August 19. Any San Francisco voter can author an argument for or against local ballot measures. Paid ballot arguments require a submission fee of $200 and a charge of $2 per word, with a maximum length of 300 words.
