    Overview

    This is the standard monthly public meeting held in person by the Sheriff's Department Oversight Board. Members of the Oversight Board will be present at this meeting in person. Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe the proceedings in person. With the exception of individuals with disabilities who require reasonable accommodations, only those members of the public who are physically present at the meeting will be permitted to offer public comments.

    1. Communications (Informational)

      Announcements and information to share with Board members and the public.

    2. Approval of Minutes (Action)

      Review and approval of the minutes from the Board Meeting held on October 4, 2024.

    3. Presentation from Amarik Singh (Informational)

      Amarik Singh, Inspector General of Independent Prison Oversight, will provide an overview of the primary functions of her office, share best practices for the role of inspector general, offer insights on essential elements of oversight, and discuss the assessment of performance benchmarks for the board.

    4. Inspector General Report (Informational)

      Inspector General Terry Wiley will provide an update on the monthly operations of the Office of the Inspector General. This report will encompass activities from the third quarter of 2024; his report will also include visits to the CJ2 women’s facility, meeting with the Jail Visiting Committee and the Jail Justice Coalition, and the annual conference of NACOLE.

       

    5. Department of Police Accountability Presentation (Informational)

      Marshall Khine, Chief Attorney for the Department of Police Accountability, will provide an overview of sheriff’s office investigations conducted by DPA for the third quarter of 2024.

    6. Evaluation of Amendment to SDOB Rules of Order (Discussion and Possible Action)

      Review the updated SDOB Rules of Order, specifically Rule 1.14(a) and Rule 1.14(b), which were approved on May 3, 2024, with an agreement to reassess in six months.

      Members of the public are invited to speak to the Board regarding matters that were not included in this afternoon's agenda, provided that these topics fall within the Board's subject matter jurisdiction. Speakers are requested to direct their comments to the Board collectively, rather than to individual Board Members, Department staff, or SFSO personnel.

    Per the Language Access Ordinance (Chapter 91 of the San Francisco Administrative Code), Chinese, Spanish, and or Filipino (Tagalog) interpreters will be available upon request. Meeting Minutes may be translated if requested after they have been adopted by the Commission. Assistance in additional languages may be honored whenever possible.     Sheriff's Department Oversight Board hearings are held in Room 400 at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place in San Francisco. City Hall is accessible to persons using wheelchairs and other assistive mobility devices. Ramps are available at the Grove, Van Ness and McAllister entrances. The closest accessible BART station is Civic Center Station. For information about SFMTA service, please call 311.
