      The San Francisco Arts Commission acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. As the indigenous stewards of this land and in accordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone have never ceded, lost nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside in their traditional territory. As guests, we recognize that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the ancestors, elders and relatives of the Ramaytush Community and by affirming their sovereign rights as First Peoples. As a department dedicated to promoting a diverse and equitable Arts and Culture environment in San Francisco, we are committed to supporting the traditional and contemporary evolution of the American Indian community.

      1. Motion to approve "The Portola, East Meets West", a mural design by Arthur Koch. The mural will be installed at 99 Burrows St. at San Bruno Ave. in District 9. The mural measures approximately 8 ft. tall by 20 ft. wide. The artwork is by a San Francisco Artists Grant (SFA) and will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      2. Motion to approve "Street Mural on Page", a mural design by Matley Hurd. The mural will be installed on Page St. between Central Ave. and Masonic Ave. in District 5. The mural measures approximately 52 ft. long by 21 ft. wide. The artwork is funded by a Community Challenge Grant and will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      3. Motion to approve "A Slice of Inner Sunset", a mural design by Robert Louthan. The mural will be installed on 654 Irving St. at 8th Ave. in District 7. The mural measures approximately 17 ½ ft. high by 46 ft. wide. The artwork is funded by District 7 Participatory Budget Funds and will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      4. Motion to amend Resolution #0701-24-298 to approve an allocation of up to $100,000 from the Public Art Trust’s Undesignated Funds for costs associated with the display of the Shahzia Sikander sculpture titled "Witness", which will be displayed in Civic Center Plaza for a period of up to seven months starting in late October 2024.
         
      5. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2020.11, "The Moon’s Gravity Causes the Ocean’s Tides", 2020, powdered coated aluminum and steel, H35 ft. x W16 ft. by Sarah Sze. The artwork is installed at 49 South Van Ness Avenue, Atrium Lobby. The artwork was approved as installed under Res. No. 1005-20-165.
         
      6. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2020.12.a-f, "Sea + Sky", 2020, dye-sublimated aluminum panel, H96 in. x W298 in., by Meghann Riepenhoff. The artwork is installed at 49 South Van Ness Avenue, Floor 1, Prefunction Gallery Wall. The artwork was approved as installed under Res. No.1005-20-164.
         
      7. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2020.13.a-f, "Sea + Sky", 2019, cyanotype, sand on paper, H96 in. x W48 in., by Meghann Riepenhoff. The prints are the source imagery for the artwork 2020.12.a-f installed at 49 South Van Ness Avenue, Floor 1, Prefunction Gallery Wall. 
         
      8. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2021.02.a-t, "Rolling Reflection", 2020, automotive paint on stainless steel, the overall installation measures approximately H8 ft. x W20 ft. x D150 ft., by Sanaz Mazinani. The artwork is installed at 49 South Van Ness Avenue, Forum, Main Entrance. The artwork was approved as installed under Res. No. 0104-21-016.
         
      9. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2022.64, "The In Crowd", 2001, acrylic on wood, H48 in. x W40 in. by Ira Watkins. The artwork is installed at the Southeast Community Center, 1550 Evans Avenue, 2nd Floor. The artwork was approved as purchased under Res. No. 0913-21-212 and approved as installed Res. No. 1107-22-211.
         
      10. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2022.65, "Brothers and Sisters", 2016, silkscreen and dry pigment on paper, H60 in. x W41 ¾ in. by Rodney Ewing. The artwork is installed at the Southeast Community Center, 1550 Evans Avenue, 2nd Floor. The artwork was approved as purchased under Res. No. 0913-21-212 and approved as installed Res.       11. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2022.66, "Dragonfly’s Flowers", 2017, comic book paper, glue and varnish on paperboard, H32 in. x W40 in. by Nga Trinh.       Discussion and possible action for the Director of Cultural Affairs to approve a curator honorarium in the amount of $2000 to Beth Davila Waldman for their participation in the development of the 2025 SFAC Galleries City Hall exhibition, "Metaphors of Recent Times: A Dialogue of the Personal, the Political and Cultural", on view January 16 – June 13, 2025.

    5. Fulton Street Plaza Activations

      Discussion and Possible Action

      Discussion and possible action to approve Surf, Rock, Skate, Roll and Read by Susie Lundy for the Fulton Street Activations Public Art Project, as recommended by a review panel comprised of SFAC and SFPL staff.

      Discussion and possible action to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into a contract with Susie Lundy for an amount not to exceed $57,500 for a series of youth and community focused activations and culminating event for the Fulton Street Activations Public Art Project anticipated to take place in Spring 2025.

    Public comment

    Public comments are accepted in person at all San Francisco Arts Commission public meetings. Remote public comment is available for those who require an ADA accommodation. Please reach out to art-info@sfgov.org or by calling 415-252-2247 with any questions or to make an accommodation request. We request at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting, pursuant to Administrative Code Section 97.7. Late requests will be honored if possible. For meetings scheduled on Mondays, please submit requests by 4:00 p.m. the previous Friday.

    Public comment in regard to specific agenda items will be taken before or during consideration of the item. Each speaker may speak for up to three minutes per agenda item, unless the Chair has announced a different length of time at the beginning of the meeting. Speakers may not transfer their time to another person. Any person speaking during a public comment period may supply a written summary of their comments to be included in the minutes if it is 150 words or less. 

    Persons attending the meeting and those unable to attend may also submit written comments of 150 words or less regarding specific agenda items or general public comment regarding items under the purview of the Arts Commission. Written comments submitted to and received by Arts Commission staff by 5:00 p.m. before the date of the meeting, or received within 10 days after a public meeting, will be brought to the attention of the commission and made part of the official public record. Please note, written public comment submitted to SFAC staff will NOT be read aloud during the meeting. Please see meeting agenda for meeting contact information.     NOTE: The San Francisco Arts Commission is discontinuing remote public comment for all public meetings starting in December 2023.     1. Agenda items will normally be heard in order. Please note, that on occasion a special circumstance may necessitate that an agenda item be taken out of order. To ensure that an agenda item is not missed, it is advised to arrive at the beginning of the meeting. All agenda changes will be announced by the Chair at the top of the meeting.

    2. Public comment will be taken before or during the Committee’s consideration of each agenda item. Each speaker will be allowed to speak for the time allotted by the Chair at the top of the meeting for up to three (3) minutes.

    3. During General Public Comment, members of the public may address the Commissioners on matters that are within the Arts Commission’s jurisdiction and are not on the agenda.

    4. Any person speaking during a public comment period may supply a brief written summary of their comments, which shall, if no more than 150 words, be included in the official file. Written comments pertaining to this meeting should be submitted to art-info@sfgov.org.

    5. Persons attending the meeting and those unable to attend may submit written comments regarding the subject of the meeting. Such comments will be made part of the official public record and will be brought to the attention of the committee. Written comments should be submitted to Arts Commission staff via email to craig.corpora@sfgov.org or  tara.peterson@sfgov.org by 5:00 p.m. before the date of the meeting. Please note that names and addresses included in these submittals will become part of the public record. Submittals may be made anonymously. Written public comment submitted to SFAC staff will not be read aloud during the meeting.
