    Overview

    This is a community meeting for public input on the hiring of an Inspector General to oversee the Office of the Inspector General, whose purpose is to investigate complaints against Sheriff's Office Deputies.

    The meeting will end at 8 pm or earlier if all members of the public who are present have had an opportunity to speak.

    1. Welcome and Introduction (Informational)

      Welcome, introduction, and purpose of the community meeting. 

    2. Presentation by the San Francisco Sheriff's Office (SFSO) (Informational)

      A representative from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office will describe its responsibilities and operations, and members of the public will have an opportunity to ask questions regarding Sheriff’s Office operations.

    3. Community input to the Sheriff’s Department Oversight Board regarding SFSO operations and jail conditions (Discussion and Possible Action)

      This is an open forum for the public to address the board members regarding the SFSO operations and jail conditions.

    4. Recruitment of an Inspector General (Discussion)

      This is a public forum for the public is to address the board members with the qualifications they would like to see in a candidate for inspector general.

      Public speakers are asked, but are not required, to identify themselves by stating their name prior to speaking.

    5. General Public Comment

      The public is now welcome to address the Board regarding items that do not appear on today’s agenda but that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board.  Speakers shall address their remarks to the Board as a whole and not to individual Board Members or Department or SDO personnel

    Know Your Rights Under the Sunshine Act

    Government's duty is to serve the public, reaching its decisions in full view of the public. Commissions, boards, councils, and other agencies of the City and County exist to conduct the people's business. This ordinance assures that deliberations are conducted before the people and that City operations are open to the people's review.     Per the Language Access Ordinance (Chapter 91 of the San Francisco Administrative Code), Chinese, Spanish, and or Filipino (Tagalog) interpreters will be available upon request. Meeting Minutes may be translated if requested after they have been adopted by the Commission. Assistance in additional languages may be honored whenever possible. To request assistance with these services please contact the Office of Inspector General at (v) 415.241.7711 at least 48 hours in advance of the hearing. Late requests will be honored if possible.

    Sheriff's Department Oversight Board hearings are held in Room 416 at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place in San Francisco. City Hall is accessible to persons using wheelchairs and other assistive mobility devices. Ramps are available at the Grove, Van Ness and McAllister entrances. The closest accessible BART station is Civic Center Station. For information about SFMTA service, please call 311.
    Assistive listening devices, real-time captioning, American Sign Language interpreters, readers, large print agendas, or other accommodations are available upon request. Please make your requests for accommodations to the Police Commission at (v) 415.837.7070. Requesting accommodations at least 72 hours prior to the meeting will help to ensure availability.
