OHE Pathways

About Pathways

The SFDPH Office of Health Equity’s Pathways program launched in August 2023 to address diversity gaps in SFDPH employment and give Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) access to careers they have been excluded from historically. The internship program, which includes three sessions per year, helps youth aged 18-24 gain workforce development skills and valuable public health experience. Pathways does not simply provide a paid internship – it helps BIPOC youth create careers.

DPH & CCSF Mentorship Opportunities

Pathways is looking for staff at SFDPH and other City agencies to serve as mentors for the 2024 fall and spring sessions. To be a mentor, you need to be willing to train an intern who does not have prior work experience. In return, you can help make a difference in someone’s life and help SFDPH advance its equity goals. To learn more about becoming a mentor, contact alonzo.anderson@sfdph.org.

CCSF Partnerships

To offer the Pathways program, the Office of Health Equity coordinates with divisions and teams across SFDPH, including ZSFG, the Population Health Division, and Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health. The program also partners with other City and County of San Francisco agencies, including the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office and San Francisco Animal Care and Control.
