Our hiring process

The Controller is the City's chief financial officer. Most of our positions are filled through the City’s merit-based Civil Service Examination process, but hiring will vary depending on the type of position for which you apply. 

The Controller’s Office Decentralized Examination Unit handles:

  • Administering and coordinating recruitment
  • Developing exams
  • Administering and scoring exams
  • Generating eligible lists for use by hiring departments
