How the program works
The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing partners with landlords and property managers to bridge the gap between our clients and the private rental market.
Benefits to working with HSH:
- Guaranteed On-time Rental Subsidy Payments: the rental subsidy assistance payments are consistent and paid on-time each month by the nonprofit partner
- Eliminate advertising costs: renting to a local subsidy program gives you access to a pool of ready-to-rent tenants
- Reduce vacancies: partnering with our programs means a pool of tenants ready to move in quickly
- Supporting services: our nonprofit partners make sure clients are adjusting successfully through in-home visits and check-ins
- Landlord Liaison services: housing specialists answer Landlord questions & mitigate risk if it arises
- Gratification: you can be part of the solution to end homelessness by doing what you already do - providing a safe unit for people seeking a stable home!
- Lower turnover rate: on average, subsidy holders tend to remain in their unit for longer periods of time.
Once your unit is available within our network our nonprofit partners will support you with viewing with scheduling unit viewings and leasing the unit. Our partners have many clients looking for units at any given time so this process can move quickly. Once the lease is signed and documents are gathered, our partner will pay the monthly rental subsidy to you.
