What is the Permit Review Roundtable?
The Permit Review Roundtable is a new service to quickly, efficiently and comprehensively evaluate Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) permit applications and plans submitted under the State or Hybrid Programs. The service is meant to ensure speedy plan review of these projects by providing a complete set of comments from all relevant City departments during a roundtable discussion with the project's design professional and City plan checkers to review the comments and answer questions.
Project sponsors will submit their ADU permit applications through the In-House Review permit application submission portal. After the project sponsor receives a completeness letter indicating that the permit application has been accepted, they will pay their permit fees and then receive an email from the Department of Building Inspection (DBI) with an invitation and link to a virtual Permit Review Roundtable time slot.
During the meeting, DBI will email the project sponsor the City’s combined mark-up comments as a pdf attachment. Project sponsors and designers do not need to have a subscription software, such as Bluebeam, to receive plan review comments. There is no additional charge for having an ADU permit application evaluated through the Permit Review Roundtable.
The project’s design professional is required to participate in the meeting so they can make revisions, answer questions and get any additional clarification that is needed to revise and resubmit the project plans.
Once the revisions are complete, the project sponsor will submit the updated plans for City review. After all the relevant City departments complete their review of the revised plans, an additional Permit Review Roundtable meeting will be scheduled by DBI.
