Adult Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) program

Healthy food choices, movement, and less screen time are part of this Chinatown Public Health Center program.

About the program

The Adult Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) program offers bilingual workshops on nutrition and physical activity through the Chinatown Public Health Center

It aims to help families to stay at a healthy weight through:

  • Better food choices
  • More physical activity
  • Less screen time

Our focus is to have the whole family involved in learning and adopting healthy eating and living an active lifestyle.

The workshop series includes modeling healthy eating and active living skills for parents and caregivers through:

  • small group discussions
  • interactive games
  • food tasting
  • physical activity

Experience the benefits

People who have participated in the program have shown the following improvement* in dietary habits at the end of the workshop:

  • Significant increase in fruit, vegetables, and water intake
  • Significant increase in physical activity level (from 155 minutes to 224 minutes per week)
  • Improvement in measures of their eating behaviors and diet quality

*Results obtained from pre- and post-test surveys of HEAL workshop series members in Fall 2018 and Spring 2019.
