When Should I Use A Gift Card?
Gift cards should be limited to whatever it says on the card. If it is a Target gift card — use it at Target. If it is a Starbucks card, buy something at Starbucks.
What Does A Gift Card Scam Look Like?
If someone wants to be paid with gift cards... that's suspicious.
If you give someone a gift card code, that is money you cannot get back. So what should you do?
Protect Yourself
Remember the following to stay safe:
- Do not give gift card codes to anyone
- Do not go through third-party sellers, e.g. craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc. that ask for gift cards
- Double check the gift cards you buy at stores to verify they have not been tampered with
If any of the above are true, it usually means you are dealing with a scammer. Find a safer, more secure way to buy what you need!
