Background

City residents elect the City’s 11 Supervisors and Mayor. The Mayor appoints the heads of most departments. 

Commissions and boards advise many departments. The Mayor or a combination of the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, and other elected officials appoint most commissioners and board members.
