Animal Care & Control Wins SPUR Good Government Award

Congratulations to our SF Animal Care and Control Team for receiving the Good Government Award from SPUR, this award recognizes their leadership, vision, and ability to make a difference - both within city government and in the community at large! As the pandemic slowed down, shelters across the country moved from a surge in adoptions to a backlog of large dogs that are very difficult to place. Recognizing this challenge the team shifted focus to discourage surrenders by offering families help with veterinary care, pet food, and waiving service fees.

Through innovative approaches and strategic partnerships, the team successfully deterred surrenders of animals and provided vital support to pet guardians, saving both resources and preventing animals from entering the shelter system.

Four individuals are posing together on a red carpet in front of a large, golden Emmy Award statue. They are dressed in a mix of formal and semi-formal attire: three women in black dresses, one with sneakers, and a man in a blue suit with a patterned tie. The background is dark, accentuating the statue and creating an elegant setting. The group is smiling, giving the scene a celebratory and formal atmosphere.
Two individuals in matching light pink suits stand together under a vibrant, rainbow-colored balloon arch. They both wear boutonnieres, and one has his arm gently resting on the other’s. The background is a rich red curtain, and a person in the foreground partially appears, facing away from the camera. The scene has a celebratory and joyful atmosphere.

Community Challenge Grant Focus Group Update

The Community Challenge Grants (CCG) program is working with our local community to be #bettertogether.

This grant cycle, CCG's application cycle is expected to open in July 2024 and close in January 2025.

The Community Challenge Grant program recently completed a series of focus groups to inform the future of the program. Over 50 community members representing all eleven supervisorial districts attended the focus groups in March. Over half of the attendees had never applied to the program, reflecting positively on outreach efforts.

This open process continues Community Challenge Grants' history of partnership between local government and community members to improve neighborhood spaces. Learn more at sf.gov/ccg
