Apply for regulatory oversight of your environmental remediation

We offer regulatory oversight of environmental remediation with our Voluntary Remedial Action Program (VRAP).

We are not currently accepting new VRAP applications. Please contact the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) or the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) for oversight of your remediation project.

Apply to the Voluntary Remedial Action Program (VRAP) if you want to clean up a property with hazardous waste. If you are developing on land that may be contaminated, you may have other requirements to protect human and environmental health.

1. Fill out an application

Apply to find out if you qualify for the program.

2. Submit your application

Email the application and any supporting documents to DPH-SiteMitGeneral@sfdph.org.

3. Pay the application fee

By mail

Submit a check made out to "San Francisco Department of Public Health". Include your project name and address on the check. Address the letter to:

4. Submit a Remedial Action Agreement

We will let you know what you need to do to clean up your site. The agreement will depend on your cleanup. Draft and submit a plan that includes details about:

  • Cleanup goals
  • The testing, monitoring, and analysis you will do to identify the contamination
  • How you will clean up your site

5. Clean up your site

​​​​​We will let the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) know at least 10 days before starting cleanup work. We can give you a certificate after you complete the cleanup goals.
