A. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Discussion/Action
Chair Almanza 10 min
In March, Member Eya suggested the Committee should read a “land acknowledgement” like the one the Department of Public Health uses at the start of its meetings. The Policy Subcommittee proposes:The Shelter Monitoring Committee acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone, who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. As the Indigenous stewards of this land, and in accordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone have never ceded, lost, nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside in their traditional territory. As guests, we recognize that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the Ancestors, Elders, and Relatives of the Ramaytush Ohlone community and by affirming their sovereign rights as First Peoples.
Public Comment will be heard before any action.
Proposed Action: Shall the above variation on the Land Acknowledgement used by DPH be read at the start of in-person SMC meetings? - III. NEW BUSINESS/REPORTS

Absent a response from the City Attorney, the Subcommittee tabled review of bylaws. A brief review of the HOC’s first meeting was discussed. The SMC’s recommendations continue to await action by the Commission and the Board of Supervisors. Member Eya reported that she would resign effective June 8. Since Members Guevara-Plunkett and Rachowicz are departing also, there will be a need to consider the composition of the subcommittee. Three members may be adequate. The SMC Chair will need to appoint a new subcommittee chair.
