Mpox case counts

Number of reported probable and confirmed mpox cases in San Francisco.

New cases

We track the number of new cases to show how quickly the virus is spreading.

The 7-day rolling average shows the trend in new cases. We calculate the rolling average by averaging the new cases for a particular day with the new cases for the prior 6 days.

Recent case data are less reliable, as data are still being validated. We do not calculate the rolling average for less reliable data.

Data include confirmed and probable mpox cases per CDC case definitions among SF residents reported to the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

The date in the graph and table refer to the date symptoms began, or, if not available, the earliest positive test date.

It takes time to process and confirm these data. Because of this:

  • Case data are lagged by several days.
  • Daily case totals on previous days may increase or decrease.

All data are updated Monday through Friday as more information becomes available.

Cumulative cases

The total cumulative number of cases is the running total. The cumulative total will always increase. The steep increases show times with higher numbers of daily new cases.
