What to do
If you know the taxi company you were using, contact them directly for quicker resolution.
1. Fill out a form
Tell us what was lost, when it was lost, and your contact information so you can be reached if your item is found.
We will need to know:
- Your email address
- What item was lost
- A description of the lost item
- Date and time the item was lost
We will also ask for other information such as the taxi cab number, driver number, vehicle description, and route information. This additional information is optional but will greatly assist in locating your lost item if you can provide it.
2. Track your case
After you report, you will get a tracking number from 311. You can use this number, and your email address if provided, to track your case online.
If your lost item is found, MTA will reach out to you.
If it has been 5 days since you submitted your report and you haven't been contacted, you can reach out to 415-701-4400 for an update. Be prepared to provide the following information when you call:
- Tracking number (also known as a service request number)
- Description of the lost item
- The date when your item was lost
