Concept designs for buildings at 730 Stanyan Street

The pictures above are conceptual designs subject to final design engineering review. Additional perspectives may be viewed in the 730 Stanyan public art proposal sharing session PowerPoint.

Background

The City purchased the former McDonald’s site at 730 Stanyan Street in 2018. MOHCD plans to develop the site for affordable housing.

In January 2020, MOHCD selected both Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) and Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) as Project Sponsors to co-develop 730 Stanyan.

As the City and Sponsors seek competitive State and Federal funding (loans, grants and tax credits) to develop the Project, the site is now a vacant lot and has been used for temporary activities intended to serve the community.

The current design for the building features 160 rental units with a mix of bedroom sizes. The apartments will be affordable to low- and moderate-income households.  There will be 50 units set aside as permanent supportive housing, including 30 units for transitional age youths (TAY) who are typically exiting the foster care system; and 20 units for adults and families previously experiencing homelessness. Ground floor uses include a childcare center, a proposed senior center and TAY drop-in support center, tech training space, and low-cost restaurant or café.

For general project updates, including updates on the building design and opportunities for public art, please visit the 730 Stanyan webpage.

What is planned?

  1. Building demolition (complete).
  2. Planning Department Approval pursuant to State law (SB 35) (completed September 2022).
  3. During Fall 2022, the City and Sponsor will pursue competitive funding from State and Federal sources, with a goal of beginning construction in 2023.
