This is the regular in-person monthly public meeting of the Sheriff's Department Oversight Board. Members of the public are invited to attend the meeting virtually or in person to give public comment.

Review and approve the Minutes from the Sheriff’s Department Oversight Board Regular Meeting held on March 3, 2023, and the Community Meetings held on March 14, 2023, and March 28, 2023.

Recruitment of Inspector General (Discussion and Possible Action)
Presentation by Michelle Phillips, Inspector General for the Oakland Police Department.
DHR will appear to give updates on responses to the job postings, answer questions, and review the timeline.
Further discussion by the board members on the recruitment process.
Discuss March community meetings and upcoming April and May community meetings.

Sheriff's Chief Report (Informational)
Presentation by the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office (SFSO) on data on complaints and internal investigation cases, including types of complaint allegations - numbers and dispositions.

Discuss a general media policy for communicating with the media.
Discuss using social media and enacting a social media policy to publicize the work of SDOB, public meetings, and other information.

Know Your Rights Under the Sunshine Act
Government's duty is to serve the public, reaching its decisions in full view of the public. Commissions, boards, councils, and other agencies of the City and County exist to conduct the people's business. This ordinance assures that deliberations are conducted before the people and that City operations are open to the people's review. Per the Language Access Ordinance (Chapter 91 of the San Francisco Administrative Code), Chinese, Spanish, and or Filipino (Tagalog) interpreters will be available upon request. Meeting Minutes may be translated if requested after they have been adopted by the Commission. Assistance in additional languages may be honored whenever possible. Sheriff's Department Oversight Board hearings are held in Room 416 at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place in San Francisco. City Hall is accessible to persons using wheelchairs and other assistive mobility devices. Ramps are available at the Grove, Van Ness and McAllister entrances. The closest accessible BART station is Civic Center Station. For information about SFMTA service, please call 311.
