Department of Elections
City and County of San Francisco
John Arntz, Director
For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, September 19, 2024 – The Department of Elections intends to begin Logic and Accuracy testing of San Francisco’s voting equipment on Monday, September 23, 2024, and will continue until all devices have been tested.
Testing will occur at the Department’s warehouse at Pier 31 and the Ballot Processing Room in City Hall, Room 48.
Mandated by law, the Logic and Accuracy testing is performed prior to each election to ensure that all voting equipment used in the election correctly records and accurately tabulates votes.
The public is invited to observe the testing either in person at the locations specified above or via live stream on the Department’s website at sfelections.gov/observe.
“Ensuring transparency throughout the election process is crucial for upholding election integrity and reinforcing public trust in election outcomes,” said Director John Arntz. “We are committed to open and accountable practices and encourage the public to observe our pre-election procedures, Election Day activities, and post-election processes. Your feedback is invaluable in maintaining the credibility and effectiveness of our elections.”
The voting machines that comprise San Francisco’s voting system are the ImageCast Evolution Ballot-Scanning Machine, the ImageCast X Ballot-Marking Device, and the ImageCast Central Scanner, all of which are subject to testing.
A complete calendar of observable activities for the November 5 Election is available at sfelections.gov/observe.
