One of the Bay’s many natural islands, Yerba Buena Island is unknown to most San Franciscans. Home to several distinct native plant communities and wildlife, including land and water birds, harbor seals, alligator and western fence lizards, albino raccoons, and even possibly a new-to-science banana slug!
Join the Treasure Island Development Authority and the California Native Plant Society - Yerba Buena Chapter on Thursday September 19th at 10:00 AM for a tour of some of Yerba Buena Island’s natural and resurrected ecology, including impressive stormwater gardens and new parks. The tour will commence from Treasure Island Building 1, located at 39 Treasure Island Road on Treasure Island. Building 1 is accessible by the SFMTA MUNI 25 bus route, the Treasure Island Ferry, by bicycle from the East Bay, or by car.
The walk will be led by Peter Brastow of San Francisco Environment and Will Benge of CMG Landscape Architects, the master landscape architecture firm of the Islands development project. We will mostly explore the northwest quadrant of the island, but we will orient attendees to the entire island and other places they can visit on their own after the field trip.
