SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, March 7, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the fifth preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election.

Today’s preliminary results report includes 27,331 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the last results report issued on Election Night, March 5.  Today’s preliminary results report includes votes from 54,662 ballot cards since the March 5 Election ballot is comprised of two cards.

The Department must still process and count approximately 98,500 ballots in the March 5 Election. This estimate includes:

Vote-by-mail ballots (received by mail, at drop boxes, and at polling places): 91,000

Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 7,500

Today’s estimate of vote-by-mail ballots to still count reflects approximately 15,000 vote-by-mail ballots the Department received in the mail on Wednesday, March 6, and which are postmarked on or before Election Day.

Department personnel will process and count ballots until 10 p.m. tonight. On Friday, March 8, ballot processing will occur from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe

The Department will next release preliminary results reports and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots, which will be posted at sfelections.org/results on Friday, March 8, 4 p.m.
