SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, March 1, 2024 – The Department of Elections reminds all eligible San Franciscans there is still time to register and/or cast a ballot in the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election.
“With Election Day now less than a week away, I encourage every eligible San Franciscan who has not yet voted to take advantage of our convenient registration, ballot delivery, and ballot return options,” said Director John Arntz. “If you are registered and have received a ballot in the mail, you can return your ballot by mail or by hand-delivery. If you are not yet registered or need a replacement ballot, you can vote in person at the City Hall Voting Center or your polling place.”
Mail Ballot Return. Last month, the Department of Elections mailed a ballot to every local voter who had registered by February 20. To be counted, a mail ballot must be either returned by mail (postmarked by March 5 and received by March 12), or returned in person to a voting site or ballot drop off box (by the close of polls at 8 p.m. on March 5). Any local voter can also authorize another person to pick up a ballot for them (using the Ballot Pick-up Authorization Form at sfelections.org/forms) and/or return their ballot by completing the “Authorization” section of their return envelope.

In-Person Voting. Any eligible San Franciscan can still register and/or vote in person in this election. At all local voting sites, all informational materials and official ballots will be available in Chinese, English, Spanish, and Filipino. In addition, facsimile (reference) ballots will be available in Burmese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese. Any in-person voter may choose to mark and cast a paper ballot or an accessible (touchscreen or audio) ballot or request “curbside” voting service. Any local voter may also request personal assistance (poll worker nametags show language spoken) or call the Department’s phone bank, (415) 554-4375, which can provide assistance in over 200 languages.
The City Hall Voting Center will remain open every day up through Election Day, as follows:
- Every weekday through March 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- This weekend, March 2-3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Election Day, Tuesday, March 5, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On Election Day, all local polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To locate your polling place:

Emergency Voting Services
Any local voter who cannot vote by mail or in person because they are hospitalized or otherwise unable to travel to an in-person voting site can request emergency service by calling (415) 554-4375 or emailing ballotdelivery@sfgov.org.
