Department of Elections
City and County of San Francisco
John Arntz, Director
For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 – Logic and Accuracy testing of San Francisco’s voting equipment will commence on Monday, January 22, and will continue until all devices have been included in the testing.
The Department will conduct this testing at its warehouse, located at Pier 31 and Ballot Processing room, located in City Hall, Room 48.
The Logic and Accuracy testing is required by law to be performed prior to each election. The purpose of the testing is to ensure that all the voting equipment used in an election properly records and accurately tabulates all votes.
Testing of voting equipment is open to public observation, either in person at the above locations or by watching a live stream on the Department’s website at sfelections.org/observe.
“Ensuring transparency into the election process is a key aspect of maintaining election integrity and strengthening public trust and confidence in election outcomes,” said Director John Arntz. “Members of the public are welcome to observe the Department’s pre-election, Election Day, and post-election activities and provide their feedback.”
The voting machines that comprise San Francisco’s voting system are the ImageCast Evolution Ballot-Scanning Machine, ImageCast X Ballot-Marking Device, and ImageCast Central Scanner, all of which are subject to testing.
A complete calendar of observable activities for the March 5 Election is available at sfelections.org/observe.
