San Francisco, CA — Mayor London N. Breed has nominated Dominica Henderson to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors. Dominica is a longtime public servant who has worked to support the Bayview community and to improve housing policy and create affordable housing opportunities for those in need.

Currently, as the Chief Social Impact Officer for the Oakland Housing Authority (OHA), Dominica leads OHA’s operational teams, whose primary focus is to deliver impactful housing subsidy programs and resident services to over 17,000 households. She formerly served on the Bayview Citizen’s Advisory Committee.

“I am proud to nominate Dominica to serve on the SFMTA Board of Directors as we work to deliver on the world-class transportation system and infrastructure San Francisco residents, workers, and visitors rely on,” said Mayor Breed. “Dominica has the experience working in public services, the ability to lead, and a commitment to the community. Her ability to bring different perspectives to the table will help as we work to stabilize and restore public transit to support our neighborhoods and our economic recovery.”

With over 20 years of experience in housing policy, Dominica has worked to develop innovative strategies that transform the physical and social conditions of public housing and create healthy and thriving communities.

“I am grateful to Mayor Breed to receive this nomination and excited for the opportunity to serve my community as a member of the SFMTA Board of Directors.  As a lifelong San Franciscan, I look forward to bringing a balanced and authentic perspective as well as lived experience to such an impactful agency at this critical time in the city’s journey,” Dominica Henderson said.

Dominica also heads OHA’s policy planning and government relations efforts and for the past ten years as the Director of Planning, Implementation, and Compliance was responsible for ensuring the Authority’s programmatic compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

“I have worked with Dominica for several years, where we both served on the Bayview Citizens Advisory Committee. I am saddened she will no longer be working with me as a CAC member but elated she will be taking all of her years of experience in housing, infrastructure and community to better our transportation system. I commend Mayor London Breed on this nomination,” said Tim Chan, Bayview CAC member and Station Planning Manager, BART.

The SFMTA Board of Directors provides policy oversight for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods in San Francisco in accordance with the San Francisco Charter and the Transit-First Policy. This includes the San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni), automobiles and trucks, taxis, bicycling and walking. The SFMTA Board of Directors also serves as members of the San Francisco Parking Authority.

“I have known Dominica and her family for many years. I am happy the Mayor has selected her to serve on the SFMTA Board because of her tenacity, passion about community and understanding the many transportation issues in the Southeast. This along with her housing experience make her such a special nominee. I look forward to seeing her contributions to the MTA Board,” said Diane Gray, Cofounder and Program Director of 100% College Prep.

Dominica earned her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Urban Planning from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
