What to do
Schedule an appointment with a City planner
The planner can answer questions about your ADU and review preliminary plans.
Meetings last 30 minutes. You can book a meeting on Monday or Thursday.
You can talk about more than one project if there’s time.
The planner may suggest you speak to other City staff if they can't answer all of your questions.
Drop in at the ADU Counter
You can drop in and speak to a City planner at the SF Planning ADU Counter, also known as counter 38. Planners can answer general ADU questions and review preliminary plans.
Meetings are first come first serve, so wait times vary.
When you arrive at the City's permit center, add your name to the ADU Counter's sign-in sheet.
You can also talk to staff from other departments at the Permit Center. But you need to sign in with them and wait in line.
Email SF Planning ADU staff
Email your questions to cpc.adu@sfgov.org.
We'll get back to you in less than a week.
If you have questions for other City departments
You can talk with staff from the Department of Building Inspection, Public Utilities Commission (SF Water), and SF Fire at the permit center.
Meetings are first come first serve, so wait times vary.
When you arrive at the Permit Center, add your name to the kiosk or sign-in sheet for the department you need to speak to.
You can also contact the Department of Building Inspection on 415-558-6205 or TechQ@sfgov.org.
