What to do
Volunteer at a vaccination site (no healthcare experience needed)
Help support and manage high-volume vaccination sites, community clinics, and mobile vaccine teams. Volunteers will be needed to:
- Oversee patient flow, lines and physical distancing
- Support administration staff at registration desks
- Assist staff with cleaning and stocking vaccine stations
- Support patient education: distribute pamphlets, answer or direct questions to clinical staff
Clinical volunteers must be willing to do some nonclinical duties in addition to administering vaccines.
Our highest priority is to recruit volunteers who can work at least one full day a week for a minimum of 4 weeks. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed.
Get matched with a senior in need through Mon Ami
San Francisco has partnered with a local company, Mon Ami. Volunteers get matched with seniors who need to stay home. You can help them with groceries, errands, or just a friendly phone call.
Volunteers will be screened and have a background check. They must follow public health guidelines.
You can also request help for yourself or someone else.
Join the Emergency Response Volunteer program
San Francisco and the Shanti Project partnered to create the COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer (CERV) program. Volunteers help people who need to stay home during the coronavirus outbreak. They provide one-time or occasional support to older and vulnerable populations.
Examples of support CERV volunteers can provide:
- Grocery shopping
- Delivering medication and other essentials
- Assisting with garbage disposal
- Mail pickup
Volunteers must be in good health and under the age of 60.
To sign up, email helpnow@shanti.org or call (415) 674-4701.
All volunteers will receive training and must follow San Francisco's stay at home order and social distancing.
Be a food pantry and distribution volunteer
The San Francisco Emergency Volunteer Center is currently seeking adult volunteers (18 years or older) to help ensure that all San Franciscans have access to food.
Volunteer roles could include food sorting, preparation, packaging, distribution, and delivery.
For medical professionals
The San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking licensed medical professionals to volunteer with DPH’s COVID-19 response efforts. Volunteers will be needed to support DPH in a variety of healthcare roles.
For more information on these opportunities, email DHR-EVC@sfgov.org.
All licensed medical professionals are encouraged to register.
