About us
The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) launched on July 1, 2016. The department combines key homeless-serving programs and contracts from the:
- Department of Public Health (DPH)
- Human Services Agency (HSA)
- Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD)
- Department of Children Youth and Their Families (DCYF).
This consolidated department focuses on preventing and ending homelessness in San Francisco.
Our mission
HSH strives to make homelessness in San Francisco rare, brief, and one-time. We do this through the provision of coordinated, compassionate, and high‐quality services.
Our guiding values
HSH is built on the pillars of compassion, courage, and common sense. These values are reflected in our work.
- Compassion: Compassion drives our work to end homelessness. HSH recognizes diversity among the homeless population and is committed to increasing equity. Our systems and programs promote dignity and respect for all people experiencing homelessness.
- Courage: Change is always difficult and can be seen as threatening and unsettling. HSH works to ensure transparency and integrity as it leads the change process. HSH works with community members to shift how SF responds to homelessness.
- Common sense: We focus on solutions, make data-driven decisions, and encourage collaboration and innovation.
HSH’s Headquarters and Adult Access Point are located at 440 Turk Street.
We moved its headquarters to 440 Turk in January 2020. We're thrilled to be part of the vibrant and historic Tenderloin Community.
